Above with Pam and Gerry Carr landlord and landlady of the Golden Calf at the party, and above right, the ‘Oscar’ awarded to the Country Gentlemen in 1988. However, not satisfied with that, the band went on to win it again in 1991. Incredible!!

These awards hold their own special place for all entertainers because they come from the votes of the men who have the job of trying to make sure that club concert rooms stay full.

This award was handed over, along with another six on this occasion, by Federation Brewery Chairman Jim Ramshaw at a glittering night at the Federation Brewery’s Lancastrian Suite, Dunston, Gateshead, in November 1988.

The truck was owned by Bill Beadnell, North East Leyland DAF, who Joe worked for at that time.
